Golly what a concert? If you like jazz, did you miss out on one of the "Kings of Jazz" Eric Vaughn. What talent. He played his piano for us on a snowy Saturday February 9th, and what an amazing performance. I myself, have never heard jazz played like Eric played. He is beyond his time and his future will be very bright. I am sure of this. All were spell bound at the concert.

House Concert:
Eric Vaughn
When listening to the music of
Seattle pianist Eric Vaughn, you begin to think there is something
familiar about his approach. Then you realize the depth of his skill
and knowledge. Vaughn's music is inspired by Art Tatum and John
Coltrane and reminiscent of Herbie Hancock and McCoy Tyner. The array
of emotions inspired by Vaughn's music is the quality that keeps you
listening. The expertise that Vaughn brings to his music is only
surpassed by the insurmountable energy and fury with which he plays.
Vaughn was born and raised in New York City. He has been playing the piano since he began lessons at age 9 with Sal Mosca, student of Lenny Tristanio. Vaughn earned his B.A. degree in music and M.A. degree in music performance from the University of San Francisco in 1977. He has been playing piano professionally ever since.
Vaughn has performed across the U.S., Europe, Canada, North Africa and played for the U.S. forces in Guam and Hawaii. He has performed with Dizzy Gillespie, Joe Henderson, Bobby Hutchinson, Eddie Moore, Bert Wilson, and Santana, among many others. Vaughn played at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival in Canada with various groups for eight years. Recently Vaughn has been performing solo concerts, playing with The Eric Vaughn Trio and with the Billy Poindexter Quartet. Vaughn has released three CDs in 2007
7:30pm at Brookhaven Lodge.
