Another memorable performance, this time by Kahala Halau, a dance group from the Skagit Valley.  We had a packed house at the Brookhaven Lodge.  What wonderful costumes they have created.  Everyone was in awe as we transported ourselves to the beautiful South Pacific islands of Hawaii, Samoa, New Zealand, and Tahiti.  The youngest dancer was 14 and had been dancing with the troupe since she was 9.  All the ladies were just beautiful, and so graceful. The troupe held a special "Learn to dance Hawaiian" time for the audience and one of our locals, Sonja from the Totem Trail Motel danced for us and did great.  For those who missed this performance, we have invited them back for our August 11th date and we hope to hold the performance outside at the Lodge Patio, weather permitting.  Though we'll start before sundown, August has usually wonderful evenings, so we'll hope for one with lots of stars to backdrop the second half of the performance.

House Concert:  Kahala Halau

Based in the beautiful Skagit Valley, Kahala Halau has portrayed the grace and beauty of Polynesian dance at venues throughout the Pacific Northwest since 1977. Our members come from many different backgrounds and have become `ohana (family), with shared love and respect for the Polynesian people, their cultures, and each other. The halau strives to perpetuate this through the arts of dance, music, and crafts, and we welcome all who wish to learn and share. Professional performances, like this house concert, feature dances from Hawai`i, Samoa, New Zealand, and Tahiti. They also offer group and private lessons in both the Bellingham and Mount Vernon areas

7:30pm at Brookhaven Lodge.
