It was a dark, cold and stormy night, and most folks we thought would brighten up their evening with some great music never appeared.  So, we had a private showing of Linda's talents.  She performed songs from her new album, Where I Stand, which should be available in a few months (check her website by clicking on her name below)--some of the lyrics were inspired by her son Nathaniel.  Linda's husband, Scott Slaba was along and helped us with a very enjoyable singalong.  Her talent creating meaningful lyrics, well matched to her music, was evident throughout the performance.  Her songs could easily become standards we would expect to hear from other performers for many years.

  House Concert:  Linda Allen

Linda Allen is a prolific songwriter and song collector.  It's the basket-weavers and miners, the quilt-makers, suffragists and struggling farm workers that find their way into the music of Linda Allen. Her songs and stories bring history to life.  Her songs have been sung and/or recorded by many artists including Rebel Voices, Seattle Women's Ensemble, Wisconsin Women's Chorus, Cindy Mangsen, Frankie Armstrong, Judy Small and Faith Petric.

Born in Seattle, Linda has written, collected, taught, performed and organized music since 1969. She has compiled and edited two collections of Northwest songs, The Rainy Day Songbook and Washington Songs and Lore.  In 1988/9 she served as Washington State's Resident Songwriter for the Washington State Centennial Commission, resulting in a recording of original Northwest songs, Washington Songbook. A prolific songwriter, she has produced six recordings of original songs.

Dr. Linda Allen is part teacher-part troubadour.  She sings the songs that tell of the lives and the work, the hopes and the dreams of people everywhere. Her interest in songwriting has grown out of her love for traditional music as well as her interest in our collective history. She has a talent for reaching into the ordinary to find the profound, setting it to music and singing it home.

7:30pm at Brookhaven Lodge.
